Is it a waste of money to use a 4.5G/5G mobile plan?

Many people buy high-end 4.5G or 5G plans, but may only use half or even less of the actual data allowance. So, is it a waste of money?

The easiest way to determine if your plan is a waste of money is to check your actual data usage over the past 3-6 months. If your plan includes 50GB but you only use an average of 20GB, then there is definitely room to downgrade to a cheaper plan.

However, you should also consider the experience after the speed is reduced. Some plans reduce the speed to 128Kbps after using up the data, which is basically equivalent to disconnecting from the internet, while some plans reduce the speed to 1Mbps or 5Mbps, which can still do basic things.
